Is my audio uploaded?
No. The file is decoded, cut and encoded by this page inside your browser. From this site, your browser downloads only this page, its two scripts and the small site icon; the demo video downloads only if you press play. The page also loads Google Analytics, which counts visits and never receives your audio.
Can I cut an MP3 file?
Yes, it works as an MP3 cutter and MP3 trimmer. Drop the MP3 into the box above, mark the part you want and download it as MP3 or WAV. To cut MP3 files into several clips, add one region for each clip.
Can I cut an MP3 without re-encoding it?
No. The page decodes your file first, and MP3 export encodes the cut part again. If you want to avoid a second round of MP3 compression, export WAV instead. The WAV file will be at least twice the size of the MP3.
How do I trim audio at the start and end?
Keep a single region that starts where the part you want begins and ends where it stops, then download it. Trimming audio is the same job as cutting, so this page is also an audio trimmer. It does not find silence for you, so set the points on the waveform or by listening with Play region.
Can I use it on my phone?

Is this a free online audio editor?
For cutting jobs, yes: it is a free online audio editor with no download and no sign-up. You can cut and trim, keep several regions, add a fade in or fade out, and export MP3 at 128 to 320 kbps or WAV. To join files, use the Audio Joiner. It does not mix several tracks, add effects, remove noise, change the volume or change speed and pitch; for those you need a full editor such as Audacity.
Can I get the audio out of a video?
Yes. Open an MP4, MOV, M4V or MKV video and the page reads its sound track; the picture is ignored. Cut the part you want and download it as MP3 or WAV. As with audio files, the video is read inside your browser and never uploaded. To turn whole videos into MP3s, several at a time, use the Video to MP3 converter.
How precise is the cut?
You set the start and end in milliseconds, and the cut starts on the sample nearest that time (1/44,100 of a second). WAV export keeps exactly those samples. MP3 export adds 25.1 ms of encoder silence at the start, and an MP3 made without a LAME header (such as one exported here) already starts 25.1 ms late, so its cuts land 25.1 ms early in the music. Which formats can I export?
MP3 at 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps, or WAV as 16-bit PCM. Both are written at 44.1 kHz, in stereo for stereo sources and mono for mono sources.
MP3 or WAV?
WAV contains exactly the samples between your start and end times. MP3 is smaller, but MP3 encoding adds a short stretch of silence at the start of the file and the audio is re-compressed, so pick WAV when the exact cut point matters.
Is there a file size or length limit?
This page sets none. The whole decoded file is kept in memory while you edit, so very long files need more memory and the practical limit depends on your device.
